3) Have a hobby or passion: This is a biggie. To live by the credo "I've got nothing to live for", is the surest recipe for depression. So do something that thrills you - it could be photography, writing, dancing - anything that excites you and nourishes your soul. I love meditation and spirituality, so I spend a lot of time on those activities. However, if people do not encourage you during your early years to develop a hobby or passion, you can choose one later in life as well - anything that gives your life meaning will do. Be it gardening or playing an instrument or art forms like painting, sculpture etc. The key is to make it something you are passionate about.

4) The power of laughter: I love to laugh, so I do it often. If you want to be happy, find reasons to laugh every day - at yourself, at others - anybody or anything that makes you laugh will do the trick. The human body cannot differentiate between real and fake laughter, so even fake laughter works!

Above all, take things in your stride. Don't get stressed out over small things. And try to have faith in yourself and your abilities - sometimes the biggest obstacle to happiness is our own pessimism! Then again - faith itself is a powerful antidepressant.
